Finding Self-Love After Abuse
Written by Byneta Robinson |
Going through abuse can leave you feeling broken, questioning your worth, and unsure of who you really are. Rebuilding self-love might feel like climbing a mountain, but trust me it’s doable, one step at a time.
Start by giving yourself credit. Seriously, surviving abuse takes so much strength, even if it doesn’t feel that way. You’re here, reading this, thinking about healing that’s a huge deal.
Next, let’s talk about that inner voice. You know, the one that always has something negative to say? It’s time to challenge it. When you catch yourself thinking, “I’m not good enough,” flip the script. Try saying, “I’m doing my best, and that’s enough for now.” Small shifts like this build up over time.
Don’t forget about boundaries setting them is like saying, “I respect myself.” It’s hard at first, but every time you put yourself first, you’re reclaiming your power.
Then, find joy in the little things. Abuse can strip away the parts of you that feel alive, so spend time exploring what makes you happy again. Is it painting, going for a walk, binge watching your favourite show? Whatever it is, make time for it it’s self-care, not selfish.
And remember, healing isn’t a solo journey. Find people who lift you up, a good friend, a support group, or even a therapist. Having someone to talk to can make the load feel a little lighter.
This whole self-love thing? It’s a process. You’ll have good days and tough days, but that’s okay. What matters is that you’re showing up for yourself, little by little. You’re worth it.
